Abstract

Themes and concepts in interior design are the main supporting aspects to create different characteristics in a place. The selection of materials in the interior elements shows whether the coffee shop is consistent with the theme and concept. Materials in interior elements can be an identity and increase the brand value. Currently, coffee shops not only sell coffee and food, but are also required to be able to create a unique atmosphere and provide a different experience to attract visitors. This study aims to identify materials in interior elements to show the characteristics of the theme and brand image of the coffee shop. This type of research is pragmatic or combined which is called mixed methods. The method of data collection is divided into two, namely library research (secondary sources) and field research (primary sources). The data is taken from a case study of coffee shops in the corridor of Jalan Merdeka Renon : Bhineka Muda, Equator Coffee, The Alleyway Cafe. The results of this study indicate that the three coffee shops adopt the Vintage Industrial theme with the use of materials that are dominated by natural, processed and synthetic materials. The effective application of the theme through the selection of materials on the interior elements has an effect to attarct more visitors. May this research can contribute to the process of designing a better coffee shop interior by considering the theme and brand image in interior materials usage.
