EXPLORATION OF CONVERTIBLE FASHION STYLES WITH BATIK PATTERN COMBINATION TECHNIQUE
Keywords:
fashion waste, cultural preservation, convertible clothing, batik, ready to wearAbstract
The increasing consumerist lifestyle of society has led to a surge in fashion waste and the proliferation of fast fashion production. This is driven by the societal need to present different styles on various occasions. Additionally, there is an issue where people are reluctant to use batik fabric for daily activities due to its perceived outdated design or the notion that it is only suitable for formal events. Therefore, the author conducted research using industrial visits, literature studies, interviews, and Google Forms questionnaires to find solutions to the issues of fashion waste, equal distribution, and cultural preservation. This research aims to merge sustainability and cultural preservation by creating convertible clothing that combines batik motifs with casual ready-to-wear fashion. The hope is that the products created by the author can educate the public and benefit various stakeholders, particularly local batik artisans, emphasizing the importance of preventing and reducing fashion waste without adopting a consumptive lifestyle. The goal is to enable individuals to maintain a comfortable and fashionable appearance on various occasions.
