Abstract

Wantilan is one of the heritage of Balinese Traditional Architecture which until now becomes a very important part to carry out the activities of Balinese people, especially those related to spiritual, socio-economic and cultural activities. As one of the public buildings, the ancient building was originally found only in temple environments for the banjar and Khayangan Tiga temple for the village scale, which only functioned as a place of tabuh rah, a ritual procession in Hinduism. Along with time, its function is growing. The development of function indirectly changes the shape of the wantilan. Using qualitative research methods, this article will describe the development of form and function of wantilan in Bali based on data collected through observation, documentation, internet study and relevant theoretical review. Through the results of this study is expected to contribute information related to the forms and function of wantilan as one of the traditional Balinese buildings that have developed in the modern era as it is today.
