Abstract

Stool is one of the most commonly used furniture when relaxing, although its function does not completely replace the presence of a chair with a backrest, but
this one seat is often chosen by consumers to complement the interior of the house because of its double function, as a seat and as a table in the corner of the room for put some small objects and sometimes become an aesthetic element in the interior corner of the house. The variety of designs with a wide selection of
materials makes consumers have many options in choosing furniture including stool. In the past, consumers chose rattan materials as material dominance on
their furniture choices. Almost every house has one or two pieces of furniture with rattan material, but the emergence of modern designs and new materials leads consumers to choose furniture. So the popularity of rattan is declining. The decline has been increasing in the past 10 years, Indonesia's rattan industry has stagnated, even the decline in revenue in the market. One of the contributing factors is the lack of development of rattan material-based designs in recent
decades. Though rattan included in the sustainable material can be renewed and easy to find its existence in nature. This certainly brings goodness in the world of design, because with the sustainable nature of this material can be processed into furniture products with high selling value with the application of design science.
